I need to get a grip on my eating.
Your prayers would be greatly appreciated and if you have any suggestions please comment with them. Overeating (gluttony) is one sin that is very visible to others.
There seems to be a movement to stop “fat shaming” people. Now while I don’t think it’s right to ridicule or call people who are overweight derogatory names I also don’t think it’s helpful to say you need to love your body no matter what. I think being displeased with your weight can be a motivator for losing said weight.
Again I would love to hear what others have done to permanently change their eating habits.
It doesn’t help, either way! When you call us names, we eat more. When you say it doesn’t matter, we shrug and say, “Okay,”and continue as is. Envisioning ideal circumstances where you could finally lose the weight doesn’t help, either, because life is rarely ideal! Something has to enter your life, your heart, your mind, to get you to change. It could be illness, disease, a new love, self-disgust, or someone just loving you enough to encourage and support you. Maybe you just get tired of the fat choices in clothing you can buy. Maybe you are tired of not being able to do things your family and friends can do. The realisation that you need to change must come from within, bolstered by things without, IMHO. Once you feel the need to make the changes, you need to actually take that first step to make one change. Then, with that one change may come the strength to make another. Take your time; the fat didn’t show up overnight, and it won’t disappear overnight, either! Accept that there will be setbacks (and yes, they may last a lot longer than a day or two), but persevere. For me, i’m in this for the long haul, no matter how long it takes. And a tenth of a pound is a tenth of a pound less than i used to weigh! i have given up on demanding huge changes and huge loss and am working on establishing changes i believe i need to make and rejoicing in clothes being a tad looser, etc. Tads are good! And take cheer: it’s easier for guys to lose weight than it is for gals. Just start. That’s the beginning. Let God help you figure out the rest, and as you pointed out, gluttony is a sin, so seeking forgiveness enters as a must. Encourage your heavenly perspective on service and temporary vs. eternal; your Father wants you to succeed and is ever there to encourage. Don’t let the Devil discourage you!
